Clipperz – A New Way to Manage Information

by Ryan Barnes on April 14th, 2007

While doing some catching up on my Google Reader, I came across a life-hacker article which featured Clipperz.

Clipperz is a website which allows it’s 100% anonymous users to store important information on their secure server. The way it works is easy to understand. When you enter sensitive data into the browser, the browser uses 128bit encryption to garble up your information and THEN send it to Clipperz. What this means, is the information they store is garbled up. NOBODY can understand it, even if they did get a hold of it. They don’t even store your username and password, even that is encrypted. The magic behind this system is all on your computer. Your web browser has the power to encrypt your bank information, and most of us feel comfortable with that right? The same encryption used to do that is the same used to send your data to Clipperz.

With that being said, while I will not trust them with my ultra-private info (my own bank stuff/ SSNs) I will use it to encrypt things like my eBay account, and the dozen websites I have login info for (lifehacker, engadget, makezine, instructables, this blog, and more.) So for me to be able to access this information from any computer that has Firefox is awesome! Yes, that’s it’s only requirement, but thank God for PortableApps!

So if you want to check this out head over to www.clipperz.com and read up!

  1. Hello Ryan,
I’m glad to see that the Lifehacker article spawned some discussion around browser encryption. You’ve done a good job explaining how that works in a few short words.

PassPack is another online password manager which employs this same “hands off the data” method – it’s called host-proof hosting. Of course, it’s also is free and anonymous (no email) and nothing to install. In addition, we also have an anti-phishing mechanism in place.

There’s a full Features Comparison PassPack / Clipperz here:
    http://passpack.wordpress.com/2007/04/10/passpack-and-clipperz-the-difference/

Also, PassPack runs not only on Firefox, but also on Explorer 6 and 7, and Opera – Windows and Unix – and Firefox for Mac (Safari’s giving us some headaches, but that’ll be working soon too).

Would you mind trying PassPack and maybe letting me know your thoughts? I’d really appreciate it, thanks! We support bulk import, so it should be fairly quick to started, even just to give it a test run.

    Cheers,
    Tara

  2. I received my 1st home loan when I was 32 and this helped my relatives very much. But, I think I will need the term loan once more time.
